Re-Coating Removable Glass Top
A new friend recently purchased an 85 that has the removable dark glass top that is in bad shape. There appears to be a coating similiar to a clear coat that is pealing off the outside of the glass top. Has anyone stripped and recoated one of these before? Does someone specialize in restoring these tops that is cheaper than purchasing a new one?

My guess is the top was in such bad shape and some knuckel head came up with the idea to coat the top to try to stop the aging & cracking prosess than cough up the $$$$ for another top, but thats just my opinon, what the hell do i know???

My '86 glass top was stained - I polished it with some NicSand Sanding Gel ("like 10,000 grit sandpaper") with their blue foam pad in my drill. Swirl marks are controllable, although I put a small scar in the top when the pad separated from ots backing disk - too much pressure - not enough patience. The top cleaned up well. I have not recoated it. Go for it - good luck.
