Hi All
I usually don't post in C4 (because I don't have one) but I have a friend with a problem. When she tries to latch the rear of her soft top it won't latch correctly. One side latches OK but the other side won't hold down. Is there an adjustment or shim or whatever that is required to make the rear latch properly. She also has a hardtop for it but that holds down by a different method (tightening screws) so the hardtop is OK. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
The soft top has pins that push into spring loaded retaining clips. Using a wrench (or pliers) make sure the pin is properly adjusted and pokes out far enough to catch the clips. Also, make sure nothing is keeping the clips from catching the pin (just look into the small hole and you should see them)
Thanks Brian. Is it just a matter of lubrication or is there an actual adjustment that has to be performed. You mentioned a wrench or pliers. Are you saying that something has to be adjusted or is it the whole latch that has to be moved?

I just went out and looked at my 87 vert and the mechanism looks much like the C3 vert I used to own. There is a (male) pin that sticks down from the top's frame and it pokes into a (female) pocket that is in the deck lid. The pin has a threaded adjustment on it. If you eveball it then you will see how it works. For a thankyou she can post a picture of her standing by her C4 - we would like to see it and her! :blueangel:
The most common problem is the thumbscrew adjustment on the cable to that bezel, located under the decklid. If the cargo area has stuff put in and pulled out over the years, sometimes that stuff will drag against the adjuster and move it.
The first thing to do would be to compare the good side against the bad side and make any adjustment(s) necessary. If that doesn't work, then try the pin on the top, but I can't imagine that would back out on it's own
In the 10 or 11 years I've had my car, I've had to adjust the cables several times, but never the pins on the top.
Good luck, and we do want pics, OK?
Thanks everyone. You've given me some good tips as usual. I'll have her take her car in and we'll take a look at it. I'm sure we'll be able to get it working right. It seems to have occurred over a period of time and not as the result of a sudden failure so it's probably just wear and tear. Again thanks.
