I just spent some time looking on Tirerack.com and according to the surveys etc. the best tire is the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 (1st of 17) with 9s in all important categories. The Kuhmo Ecsta MX was ranked (8th of 17) and had 8s and 7s. The price difference is $752 with road hazard for Goodyear vs $627 for the Kumhos. If the tread life is better or equal for the Goodyear I may try that because I would rather spend years with someone or something rated a 9 than a 7 or 8.
I run the Kumho MX's. I can't comment on tread wear, but the dry grip is exceptional! They lasted well on their first assignment, a 1600 mile round trip to Watkins Glen raceway with 2 days of on-track driving. I was very impressed with their grip on the track.
Something you may or may not want to take into account with the Firehawks... (I have them and LOVE them compared to the Goodyears)... Their tire diameters run a bit smaller than the stock Goodyears... The 275's are just a bit smaller, the 285's just a bit larger... I bought the 285's and they do make the MPH read about 1 MPH less than the Goodyear 275's did.
It rained here last week in So. Nevada (finally) and the roads were very slick. The Firehawk SZ50 EP's on my '93 Ruby felt like I was on rails! This is the 2nd Corvette I've had these tires on; I wouldn't dispute the experts. As I have stated before, tires are a personal choice. One man's treasure is another man's junk. If you choose wrongly, at the price of these skins, you are stuck with them. ALL favorites are subjective; what works for one may not work for another due to driving habits, weather and road conditions, etc. One has to be careful of "official" comparisons because it is not clear under what conditions these tires were tested. One thing I have never trusted are "tests" using different drivers on different cars with a particular brand of tire on them. One driver has his criteria, another's may not agree. Every Corvette I see parked, I check out what kind of tire it has on it, regardless of year, just out of curiousity. One thing is cast in stone for me: You get what you pay for.

Re: Tires for 91 (Crash89)
Firestone FireHawk SZ50 without a doubt. Just replaced the Goodyears with the SZ50 and the difference was unbelievable!!!
Just attended a C4 class at Bloomington Gold where both Gordon Killebrew and Ron Kane recommended these based on their own and their customer's experiences. :steering:
