Default 85 overheating problems

My 85 overheats when in traffic if the outside temp is 95 or greater. Just going under 40 it will get hot, stopped in traffic is very bad. I get worried if the temp goes over 230. I cann't turn on the air, the temp keeps going past 230. The coolant is new, the radiator seems ok, replaced within the last 6 years. Have a 160 thermostat. The fan is on when the temp is rising. Any ideas on what to check will be great as everyday here out of Sac. Ca is over 95.

You can try cleaning your radiator. The front of the radiator gets clogged and you can't see it without removing the air cleaner and plenum. Read this:

It ain't as bad as it seems. You might find crud to remove without really removing the radiator itself. You might also consider a new water pump if yours is original. Let us know what you find out.
