I've got a 95 LT1 with a 6 speed trans. The reverse gate is broken and its now a hassel forcing it into reverse. I'm thinking of buying a Hurst or Ripper Shifter. Both companies claim that they will bolt straight on. Does anybody know for sure??
Both do bolt in and replace original shifter. They are a PITA to install though. You have to go the shift console as well as under the car to install. Very rewarding after done. White racing also makes a short shifter that uses stock shifter that relocates attachment of shift rod to produce a 45% reduction. Installs same as others.
I put a Hurst in mine a few weeks ago. Its not that bad, if you have someone help you. We removed the exhaust to get to the linkage under the car. But it took 2 of us, one on top and one under to get the new shifter in place. Actually the hardest part was taking the exhaust off. Also I used ramps for the front and jack stands for the back to get under the car. Would of been much easier if I had a lift. Oh ya, and it is just a straight bolt in, no modification needed.
You pay for the plane ticket and I'll come install a Hurst shifter for you. :jester
I, also put in the Hurst Shifter. Their instructions are very good, but you have to be able to get under your Vette to drop the exhaust so you can get to the underside of the transmission. There is one pin that some have trouble getting out (I didn't), but it is do-able. Out of all the mods and improvements I've done to my Vette, this is the most fun once it's done. :yesnod:
