Re: Quick release top guy, where are you? (offershore)
I just spent 20 min. fighting that roof. have you made the latches yet?
It takes me less than a minute to take off my top now. I spent less that $20 on this electric screwdriver at wal-mart and I've only had to recharge it probably 5 times since I have had my car which has been almost 2 years.
Re: Quick release top guy, where are you? (Wheelman)
I use a dewalt 18v the problem seems to be every time I take it off the alignment changes,so the torque screws won't align unless the car is on perfectly level ground. I would think a 1/4x3 tappered screw with an adjustable stop would work much better, and be a snap to do.
my 69 vert manual top will go up,down&up in 1 min.
Re: Quick release top guy, where are you? (behnevette)
I hope he didn't give up too. I've had it with fighting that top! I burnt my hand today taking it off (and my hands are very rough) and almost dropped it, then I almost SMASHED it(on purpose} trying to get it back on. It always gives me a little trouble but today was nuts. If the car is perfectly level it's not to bad but parking lots are not my garadge floor?
Re: Quick release top guy, where are you? (offershore)
ive had mine on/off about 20 times is all but so far ive had no problem whatsoever with it.
i set it on the rear pegs ,slide it to the rear, drop the front, run the rear screws mostof the way snug with the ratchet, then tughten the fronts up,then go the the last half turn on the rears to finish.
never read the official procedure.
you guys are getting every point started before snugging any 1 of them arent you?
im just wondering what could be not lining up cuz i dont have to even pay attention to alignment,it drops into place and bolts start easy.
maybe they improved something in 92.
i see ecklers has some anti-rattle pieces that came out on 92+ cars that retrofit the older ones, maybe they help the panel drop into place too?
weird.
Re: Quick release top guy, where are you? (mitymek)
Since I did Scoob's top alignment procedure, I don't have to fight it any more. It's still a pain but it goes on and off much easier now and no more squeaks. I'd still like to have a better way and Atotalnincompoop might have the answer. Bet he's waiting on a patent.
Re: Quick release top guy, where are you? (offershore)
:seeya looking for me?
i have it built, it works, it's simple and will be pretty cheap. :yesnod:
thats all i can or will say, the patenting procedure is pretty complicated and has some very strict rules regarding "disclosure". 'nough said
it's coming guys, you'll just have to wait a bit yet Greg
