You need a surge protector for the phone lines.

I have one that just plugs into the protected power strip and accepts the phone line in and out to the PCs.

For even better protection, get a Universal Power Supply. They condition the AC before it gets to your computer, and have VERY heavy duty surge protection for both AC appliances and phone line connections. Any of the phones go dead at the house also?

The UPS will also give you time to shutdown in the even of a power outage, since you have a generator that's not really a problem for you, but it might concern others who read this.

Sorry the surge protector is useless in a electrical storm the omly way is to disconect the plug and phone line to protect the computer!

Man, sorry to hear this! Hope you get everything fixed in a cheap and timely manner.

I've been using computers for a very long time, and I've gotten to where I HATE fixing computer problems! Good luck!

I once saw a lighting bolt strike open ground about 50' away from me. I was standing on my back porch at the time, and decided to go inside thereafter. After the storm passed i examined the point of impact and it had left a small crater about the size of 1/2 of a softball. :yesnod:

You shoud have dug around in the soil. The lightning will fuse the soil together into a tube, that follows the path of the radiating electricity. They are called fulgerites and very rare!

Not really worth it. Have a friend that had four computers fry from surges through the phone line, even with those surge protectors. Now they disconnect everything when it storms!

:iagree: There isn't anything that's 100% full-proof of protecting against lightning strikes. Surge protectors or UPS can't hurt, but it's still best to unplug everything. I recently lost two home computers (both brand new) to a severe thunderstorm. They were both connected to their own UPS and were unplugged (even the RJ-45 patch cables were unplugged). Our neighbor's chimney took a direct strike of lightning. I'm guessing that the static electricity in the vicinity, because of the strike, is what toasted both computers. Remember, we're talking millions of volts with lightning

I could'nt find where it hit and my neighbors were fine. I was thinking something like that happened here. maybe it hit in my yard somewere. That's just my luck. NONE! :banghead:
