I just went on a trip for a week and came back to find my interior lights, door locks, radio didn't work. The ctsy/clk fuse was toast so I replaced it but the horns blared at me. I took the fuse out to stop the racket. I am wondering if there is anything I can check or replace before taking it to an electrical shop. I do have a voltmeter and a test light. I wonder if the horn relay went bad while I was gone(when the cat's away....)
Check the two door switches, and the hatch switch for the courtesy lights. I had a problem when it was colder out, where I would set the alarm, close everything up and about 5 minutes later the alarm would trip. It ended up being the hatch switch for the alarm/lights.
I went ahead and replaced the switches you mentioned. Unfortunately, the problem is still there. The horns blow constantly if I put the ctsy/clk fuse in. :banghead: Any other insights? TIA
every problem Ive ever had with the horn in my 85 was with the button itself or the horns themselves. Now since your horn is working I would suspect the spring under the horn pad is grounding out or your relay behind the DIC is stuck...
By the way, thanks for the input jcaire2 and JD. I'm going to pick up a new relay and new horns todays ince they are relatively inexpensive. I'll post again when I've replaced them.
My '92 did something similar... the horns came on and wouldn't go off. The problem was a broken turn signal cancelling cam. There's a spring loaded contact held down by a small piece of plastic, and that part gets brittle over time and can break. When that happens, the contact flops around and can make contact with something metal (ground), which causes the horns to go off. Try taking off the horn button, or even the steering wheel and check for a lose wire.
Well, I finally got around to putting the new horns in and now my problem is fixed  I didn't know horns could go bad, but whatever. Now I don't have to be embarrassed to blow the horn because it's not weak anymore. Didn't need the relay although I bought one. Just out of curiosity, where exactly is the horn relay?
