FX3
Okay, here is the situation. I'm getting my '90 C4 FX3 Convertible back from the shop tomorrow. I just bought the car in March It broke down eight weeks later, and it was sitting for several weeks. I just had some serious maintenance done to the engine, and I had a complete inspection done.
In the process of the inspection, it was noted that the previous nimrod owner installed regular Corvette Bilstein shocks. The car does not currently have the FX3 specific shocks. I would have sworn that the adjustment dial on the console changed the feel of the ride. What is the effect of the presence of non-FX3 specific shocks?
The FX-3 shocks have a nut on the top of the shaft (which an actuator rotates) to adjust the dampening rate. When I had the FX-3 shocks out of my car in April, I manually rotated the gear and could feel a significant difference in the shock's resistance.
Bottom line - without the FX-3 specific shocks, you're not getting the variable dampening, so you shouldn't be feeling any difference when you move the switch position.
