Re: C4 PRICES....WILL THEY DROP? (BioRxOkc@aol.com)
Looking at autotrader the other day and there were 97 and 98's selling for 17+thousand and 18+thousand with 60 - 80 thousand miles on them. Don't go for the investment, go for the fun.
But they should bounce back up again right? Its hard to find a Chrome Bumber C3 in good condition 15-20K? I maybe be off, but its worth more then 84+ Corvettes I know that for sure. ;)
look at the prices on the c3 for sale forum.makes you feel better.
"But they should bounce back up again right? Its hard to find a Chrome Bumber C3 in good condition 15-20K? I maybe be off, but its worth more then 84+ Corvettes I know that for sure. "
a friend called and asked about a 82 ae in great shape for 20k on a car lot the other day.
without laughing out loud at him i directed him to research and compare that car to a 95-96 c4 car.
although im glad to see high dollar prices on late c3's,i hardly concur they are worth more than c4's.
like i told my friend-i doubt that car cost 20k brand new.maybe-barely.
but as long as the c3 prices are hangin high im happy ,just helps hold the other series value.
theres just so many c4s on the market right now the supply is greater than the demand in some places...is what i think.
plus its a buyers market out there on used cars due to the super low interest rates on new vehicles.
what a great time to be in the market for a car this is-or house for that matter.
theres an annual appreciation/depreciation survey on the net for vettes, last i looked the 91 c4 was right at the bottom of the depreciation scale at 13k dollars (i think).it would start appreciating slightly from there.
92 still dropping,93 dropping more... and so on.
I can tell you what dealerships think of C4 prices. I have been in the market to "upgrade" my 1995 6-spd and have visited 5 dealerships. The highest trade in value quote was $6800  and my car is in above average condition. Most never even looked at the car, just took the vin and gave me a quote. I have my car advertised locally and in the autotrader, but not a single call. The market for used C4's in my area is dead!!
My girlfriend just traded in her '95 CY Vert w/31k and CE Wheels for an '02 EB Vert w/3k and Polished Wheels, Z51, Performance Axle and 12 disc changer. They gave her $17.5 for her trade-in and she paid $42k for the C5. All-in-all I think she did OK. We went to some places and they didn't offer any more than 11k for her '95.
these cars prices are driven by supply and demand. there are so many on the road and on the market that i don't think that you will see prices move up until the supply of good low mileage cars thins out. they are still too new for any collector interest. don't think the c6 coming out will have any effect.
the buyers of the c6 are probably not sellers or potential buyers of a c4.
I got 11 on trade in on my super clean 88 last year which I thought was mega low. I think the C4's should level out and the C5's will start taking the big hits when the C6 comes out. I also think that conditions dictates alot when it comes to corvette pricing.
The key here is that the dealer is trying to steal the car. Alot of nice C4's are still in the 13-18 range. The dealer tries to pick them up for next to nothing and then turn around and sell them for a high amount. The dealer dosen't want to just make $500 on your car they want to make thousands.
The key is to get into a low mileage car for the right amount of $$$.
Often you get attached to a car or pay a premium because a car is in such gorgous shape, unfortunately it is very difficult to get that $$ back when you sell the car.
Alot of people on here say that a bluebook or nada never buys a car. While this may be true in some rare or special edition cars, most people do use the book as a reference.
You can pay over the books if you prefer but you will have to find that certain person to buy your car down the road who will offer a premium for it.
I always pay no more then the book. Deals are out there.
I bought my 93 for KBB with 34,000 miles for $11,900.00.
C4's will continue to drop but they have been hit pretty hard. Even if I rack on the miles, I will still probably always be able to sell the car for $5,000-$8,000.
The C4's that are taking the bigger hit right now are the later 94,95, & 96 cars. The best values in the C4 market right now are the 92 & 93 years and if you can get a low mileage one you are all set.
I think the best bang for the buck is to buy a Vette after about 45,000 miles or 5 years after it has depreciated some. :smash:
Easy answer...of course. Why should the C4 stay level and the C5 drop? When the C6 comes out, buy a C5, they will be dirt cheap, but will go back up in price for a few years.
I bought my red LT4 ragtop when the 98 vert was released. Bought the car half price with 9800 miles on her.
It is definitely a buyers market now. Dealerships continue to rape the public with their poor trade in values and high selling prices........Vultures!!!!
the c4's will all bottom out eventually but then remain steady and could go up. it all depends on the year, type, and quality. i never plan on mine going up. it's an 86 (not a pace car which everyone on ebay claims there 86 to be). Cars in general are not investments. IMHO, I think the best car for your money right now is an early L98. If you want more power, a 92 LT1.
As people keep upgrading their vettes, to newer ones, the C-4s will continue to drop in price until the supply drops and then the demand will might increase. Once people without Vettes find out what a hot rod these C-4s can be, demand will increase. As far as supply goes, mine is here to stay, so it's one less Vette available. :yesnod:
Re: C4 PRICES....WILL THEY DROP? (atotalnincompoop)
If you look at the trends when the C4 was released and when the C5 was released, the C4 should increase a little in value in the next couple of years, in my opinion. The C4 was a long production run, which really hurt the C3's. You could pick up a C3 back then, cheap. When the C5 was released, the C4 prices dropped, especially the early C4's. A lot of people want either the latest body style or they want an "old style". When the C6 is released, I predict that the C5 will drop in price and become close to the price of the C4's. In a couple of years, the C4s will start to increase again in value. If you are expecting the C4 to be an investment, sell it now and get a C2. I don't think the C4's will become investments like the C2. There are just too many of them out there. The C5 won't become an investment either. They don't have the "sex" appeal that the C2's have and their production numbers are a lot higher than the C2. Essentially, what I am saying is, enjoy your Corvette now. In a couple of years, you may be able to trade it in at the same amount as if you trade it in now, except you will have a couple of years of fun. If you want a C5, that will be the best time to pick one up cheap. The Z06 may hold more of a value than the other C5's, but it will still be cheaper than trying to pick up a ZR-1. That is my $0.02. :D
IMO both C-4 and C-5 prices are just about bottomed out. I don't think either will appreciate much, EVER, but I don't think they will go down much more either.
My thoughts/question is....can they drop anymore than they have.....not that I really care.....oh who am I kidding....of course I care.....
Can't believe they are so low.......
