Default 2+ Years and counting

It's been quite a long while. I haven't posted for more than a year or so. More importantly I haven't even driven my '88 for 2.5 years. I started off "fixing" the vette a few years ago - removed engine/trans, removed everything north of the firewall and began replacing (suspension, steering, etc.). However, while putting it back together I decided to "upgrade" from stock. So I took it down to Houston, TX to have Chris at Speed Demon Motorsports do his magic. The car spent a year in the shop (I kept changing my mind on the setup...Chris kept tempting me with better options, etc.). At the end of the second year, my job relocated me to Seoul, Korea. So...it will be a grand total of 3 years by the time I'm actually able to drive her again!

Bottom line: I own a corvette, at least on paper. Let me rephrase, I pay insurance on a corvette :D . It's been a long separation.

I had tranny problems for 1.5 years, could not afford to fix it. Went to Saudi for a year to make the money. So, for me it was just 2.5 years.

I was going nuts after not driving it for a month when I had it repainted a couple of years ago. You'll have a serious learning curve going from that 350 to a 396. Should be fun though!

Actually, the learning curve will be far more aggressive than that. For 2 years I drove a '90 Nissan 240sx that I rebuilt (bought it for $1K, put $2K into it to bring it back up to "mechanically" sound condition). I'll be going from that, 145 fwhp, down to 5 leg hp (my bicycle) for a year...then to the 396! :D

BTW, 5 leg hp is a bit on the conservative side...these darn chicken sticks I'm trying to pedal around the hills of Korea with are getting stronger; slowly...I should be up to a good 9 leg hp by the end of it.

I'm dying to hear the sound of any engine larger than a small 4 cylinder. Literally, all they drive around here are Korean made cars with the occasional BMW (which just doesn't sound menacing enough). There is an American here who drives a free-flow Harley...shakes the ground, buildings, etc. The Koreans, all 17 million in Seoul, take it as a personal insult. They hold their ears, duck behind large objects, and make disgusted faces. Their culture is a bit more understanding of other people's personal space...as a result of their tight living conditions...however, it's always nice to hear an obnoxiously loud motor once in a while!

Regards,
Dave
