Default vin numbers

i looked at a vette that had 1976 vin numbers but the body was a 1980 its also had a 1976 emission sticker under hood is it hard to change vin # ? .but how did they change emission tag . is this a hot car? why would anyone take a 76 and turn it into a 80 i will go take a pic if it is still sitting in the same spot

It's not too difficult to add later year shark body panels to make a 76 look like an 80. I would suspect that the 76 may have been wrecked in the rear and a rear body clip was installed. Once you pull the body off the frame, a good bodyshop with experience in Corvette body repair can do something like this. The front clip can be done in the same way.

Of course there are those people who have more money than brains, so somebody could have bought a 80 and put the front and rear clips on a 76.

I would be looking at the frame of the car to see if there is any indication of damage. Fresh bolts and rubber body mounting cushions would be a giveaway that major work was done. A check of the certificate of title would be in order to see if it was a salvage car or rebuild.

Bumpers are easy to change. But what back glass did it have???? Flat or bubble?
