Insurance question
Has anyone claimed their cracked glass top on their insurance? I have statefarm and am thinking about doing it. Mine has a crack about 4 inches long right in the middle from a rock hitting me at 70mph. Has anyone tried this?
TIA,
Brad

Im sure they will pay. Or just tell them it was vandalism. Either way its a comp. claim.
Be careful though you might just get dropped the next time you renew. Especiall with State Farm unless you have been with them forever

That is what I am worried about. I have been with them for 5 years and have never claimed anything so I think it is about time.

I am 42 and have been driving since I was 16. I have made very few Insurance claims in my life and all have been minor. It just seems that everytime I do my Ins. goes way up the following year and they tell me some BS story about why, but I know why. Anytime you make a claim they want to recoup that money as fast as possible. You have to decide wether or not it is worth it. Good Luck, Guy
Ive been with state farm for 30 years and with the same agent. so they look at me a little different than a new client. I have 5 cars and 2 houses with them so they are a bit more forgiving.
But I still don't make unessasary claims. But you have a valid claim and I would turn it it.

Just a thought... these rebuilt transparent tops range from the mid $400.'s to mid $700.s depending on the vendor. Look at your deductible? You may have a $500. (or more) deductible and then the question would be is it really worth the aggrevation or risk to make a claim for the couple hundred difference?
Sure would be neat if they handled them like windshields, those are normally handled under a provision and the deductible doesn't apply in those cases.

It sounds like you have a valid claim and should be covered under the comprehsive part of your policy. The only thing about this is your rates will probably go up on the next renewal. In the past I've just paid for windshield repairs and such instead of getting it covered by the insurance. If it was me, I'd probably just save up the cash and get the new panel myself.
Yes, your insurance will pay under your "other than collision" coverage (comprehensive)
One glass claim will not get you cancelled unless you give them a reason- i.e. multiple claims, violations, etc. Lenght of time with the company usually weighs heavily also (keep that in mind if you shop every year)
If you have a $500 deductible and the top is $800, they will only pay out $300- I'm sure you pay quite a bit more than that a year in premium.
Some companies have a "first accident/claim forgiveness" perk for loyal customers. Some have may have a $0 deductible for glass claims (They don't want you driving around with a cracked windshield and run over a pack of girl scouts because you can't see!) The roof may or may not fall into that category- depends on if it's a safety concern or not.

:nono: Lying is fraud and in this case it wouldn't matter. It looks better to an underwriter if it came from a passing car/truck than vandalism!!!!
