I thought the 91+ model C4 had a electronis speedometer that reads you speed in led numbers? At least thats what mine is. My question is this. I thought the speedometer maxes at 199. I say this because i thought i remember ppl saying when you go above 200 mph say on a dyno or something it flips back over to 0 and 201 reads 01 and so on. Well in the new issue of either vorvette fever or vett magazine they had an article about vett dashs of many years and the shot they had of the dash that looks like mine says 999mph? can someone explain this? im tempted to change my settings to KPH and go up to about 120mph since that would be 200kph and see if it rolls around or if a 2 shouws up.
Well, there are enough LCD segments to make "200". Or for that matter, an "888" or "999"! I guess it depends if the computer's speed sensor is calibrated to 200+.

I don't really want to start an argument, and the speed may max at 255, but it has nothing to do with the fact that the computer is an 8-bit CPU. 8-bit computers are capable of displaying numbers much larger than 255. Its simply a matter of the programming. Most computers prior to the 80s were 8 bit, we could easily have large numbers stored and displayed.

Sorry, just couldn't let that go
:D
All right... how bout just saying there is no reason to suspect GM used anything larger than an 8-bit register to hold the vehicle speed? :smash: :D

Oh, now that was a nice catch! I have to give you that one! Ok, to clarify: the register buffer for the speedo is only 8 bit so in that light, there is no way the speedo can display more than 255.
