Seriously don't take this the wrong way, but have lots of you guys ever been in the 130+ range? Things start to get spooky. The dashed lines become a gray blur, the slightest twitch in your hand can make the car change lanes (esp. true in Z51 steering box cars), stuff comes up soooo fast, and your brakes can be nearly useless to bring you down fast.
200mph is NO easy feat and takes a ton of sack to attempt for those with the machinery to do it.

Re: Any 200mph Corvette owners in here? (BAM92)
Friend and I on way to New Orleans from Houston were in his 96 993 twin turbo Porsche and decided to open it up. It hit 200 mph on the speedo. Come to find out that most speedos especially Porsche are not accurate on the high side. Porsche racer friend of mine said we were actually only doing high 180's. I don't recommend doing this in anyway. You really pass people at a high closing rate.
It doesn't help that you know the top speed though, if the speedo is off at that end, and you have a headwind or tailwind, that will make your top speed lower or higher, and you won't know how fast you were actually going.

Re: Any 200mph Corvette owners in here? (NicBig)
I was wondering about the Majestic "200" for years. Callaway picked the C-4 because it has a air drag of I think .34 and .29 for the C-5, 2 of the lowest ever. I want a car that I know do 200mph even if I never take it there. Right now we have Vettes that run 145mph on up to??? Some of you may 200mph Vettes and never stopped to think about the Horse power to Drag ratio. Anyone know of any graphs or estimates about the HP to Drag ratio?

Sweet, huh? I'd like to do it just once! I've ran, I'm guessing about 130-140 a lot with my buddy in his 95 he was a nut. His speedo was reading 150+ so I drop down for high speed error. I've sucked the drivers side window out of the weather stripping on my 87 and the speedo was reading 153. The air turbulance gets loud enough to drown out the radio, It's FN LOUD at high speed. I'm not a maniac these runs number about 6, maybe 8 over the last 4 years. As I get older they get fewer and fewer, but I make more $$$ as I get older. So why not have a last run to 200mph? On a closed corse of course.

It's funny, when you're young you're "invincible." I don't think people realize what happens when you blow a tire at 130+.

Top speed on most later model c4s is 170-180mph
Sure if you're talking ZR1s and maybe an LT4 here and there would nick low 170s.

VIZKIZ this 993 was the widebody turbo with computer and exhaust work with 455hp. Ruf uses narrow bodies for less drag and have over 500hp. Ruf also uses his own speedos. I drove in a highly modified 89 Ruf convertible that had 12 fuel injectors for 6 cylinders, 2 sparkplugs per cylinder, custom fuel injection and a very big turbo for 632 hp. Now that was fast. But when your motor cost over 35 thousand to build it better be fast. Boy I got off subject. Sorry.

Well next time all let you all know when the tri-city top speed shoot out comes around this city blocks a road and away you go.I'v missed to both times.Stealth TT last year, vette LT4 this year. Both year's a Viper GTS won it was clocked by radar at 181mph and 185mph.I bleived both stock. You only get like 4miles of road,I will get there next year. And go as fast as I can take. The faster I go the slower everyone else looks. The ZONE is a great place to be when you get over 100mph 125mph 136mph and solid as a rock.Somethings you can't read.I will go 200mph someday in my vette.

Huricane_777,
For the comment about blowing a tire at high speeds....Thats why runflats are the future.
The C5 guys seem to hate them, but if you blow a runflat at triple digit speeds, you at least have a chance at living....

Most serious high speed runs, racers get special shaved tires which have been xrayed(i think) to check for imperfections.

The difference between a passenger car and a Vette at 120mph is so large it boggles the mind. I feel pretty firmly secured to the road in my Vettes (C-3 and Esp. my C-4), I hate the boaty feeling you get in normal cars, very unsetteling at 120mph. :steering:

I drove my C3 to 110 on time, never to repeat that again. Very scary...plus if you factor in the age of susupension on these cars, I would be very careful about traveling too fast in one.

My C-3 is more of my 1/4 mile car. It doesn't come close to feeling like the C-4, over 110mph.

The 1993 Lingenfelter Sledgehammer Corvette exceeded 256 mph I believe at over 900 Horses.

Thats cool about the #s. And you are right about SledgeHammer being built by Callaway. I held on to the Road and Track mag. that featured the "Gathering of Eagels" top speed shoot out.

I've seen more than a few stock LT4 owners claim 175. Not sure whether it's true or not. :shrugs

Actuallly the Sledgehammer was a Callaway car, driven by John L on the fateful run. ;) It was built in 1988....started life has RPO b2k number 51. My car is no 48, chances are they spent some garage time together :)

John was selected not only to share the driving chores with Reeves but to build the engine to Callaway's exact specifications as well. Lingenfelter Racing is located in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and is known for excellence in this realm.

If your speedo read 200mph. Would you be satisfied with that or would you want a radar gun to make it official?
