Default General Maintenence Question

My car is now at 56,000 miles and I was wondering what things I should start checking, replacing, etc. When I got the car it had 43,000 miles and the guy that had it before me took it to shops to get everything done, but I do things myself and haven't taken it to the shop at all. I was just wondering what general things I should start expecting to replace at this point of the cars life ( brakes, struts (never been changed), optispark, etc ).
Also, how often should I change the transmission fluid and / or diff fluid.

Change all fluids first, thats really all it would need at 50K. Maybe plugs and wires too.
Alternator, may go but should last to 100K
Brakes would need new pads, maybe rotors.
Opti and Water Pump should be replaced at the same time, but should last to 100K with care. Optis tend to go whenever they want though.

Shocks should be going downhill by now, usually need replacing by 75K.
Diff fluid is supposed to be changed at 100K.

Thanks,
There's a little bit of rattling in the front end, so I'm unsure whether its the shocks or something on the brakes or what. I figured the shocks were about done for and I needed to change the pads out and stuff. Thanks for the input
