I'm a newbie to this forum and owning a vette. I got stuck in traffic last week and noticed the temp right at the white just before 260. I've replaced the temp sender(fan sw) and the fans run on high when I select a/c but they run slowly as the temp goes up. A friend says they won't run on high until 225 and the fans go through the ECM. Any mods I can do other than lower the thermostat and is that a good idea. Car will not be run in the winter
Those numbers are pretty hot, and that doesn't sound right - the fans spin slower as the temp goes up? How long stuck in traffic were you, and what was the OAT?
I'd certainly have the coolant system flushed properly. That sometimes gains you about 8-10 degrees. Check the air intake for the radiator, make sure you don't have debris in there causing obstructions to the air flow. You'd be surprised what gets sucked up in there. The 160 thermo probably will help some.
OAT was 91 deg. I was stuck for 10 - 15 minutes. As soon as I put air on the fans come on high and the temp starts to fall but I will flush system tomorrow and see if that helps, then I'll change the termostat. Thanks
Maybe there is also some debris built up clogging the fins of the condensor and radiator.. I would check that out.. and do a coolant flush.. because coolant can gunk up over time inside the engine block and coolant passages.. but in addition it can also become acidic over time and that is another good reason to flush the system.. but I would check to make shure the radiator and condensor are not clogged up.. its a common C4 occurance because of how low the air flow is to the ground they suck up lots of leaves and other debris.. also make shure the coolant is full, if you flush the system make shure you bleed off the air...

Make sure your radiator hoses are in good shape and are not collapsing. Also check you water pump. Mine was just starting to weep a bit and I was running pretty hot 235+. Once it was replaced, I've been running much cooler.
