Thanks for posting your story & sorry about your loss/mess. Don't let it put you off Vettes. My Paypal acct. was hacked a while ago. Pays to use xtra caution w/ internet stuff these days.
Man that really sucks! SOB's like this should be prosecuted. Anyway your story hopefully will make someone else think. We almost got burned on Ebay also with a vette. We drove to the car before the deposit was paid (next day-close by). Totally misrepresented, walked (actually ran). Found another one 2 weeks later and bought it the next day. (this one wasn't on Ebay!)
Looking for a car for my Mom in law. Found 2 on E bay yesterday. Conversations with the owners was poor via e mail. They didn't answer my questions. Anyway, Phukem! Not getting my money.
I'll stick to the old fashioned way.
How far away is the car? Maybe someone in that area could buy it for parts and you could recoup some of your investment?
For any significant amount of money you need to use an escrow service. If the seller won't agree to that, don't send any money.
I always marvel at ads that come right out and say 'money order, bank check only'. Some might be legit but who can take the chance, and why? There's not much for sale on ebay that won't be repeated tomorrow with payment terms that make more sense. Even cars.
None in particular. Just from reading them over the past month or so since we had our problem. Mostly it was just stuff about Ebay responding with canned letters. Although, I see EWAN is making a showing today. Maybe you could post something there? FWIW, there are a lot of idiots there too. I know the Ebay resolution stuff is just an automated program. Have to pay for a mediator. Just bitter myself still.
Chris
The escrow service is a good way so thanks for pointing it out.
Filed for Purchase Insurance due to non-delivery and devaluation. This insurance isn't worth a lot in this instance but could be for other items.
eBay sent another shipper there and the rear of the car is on the ground and he couldn't transport it either for safety reasons and just the plain fact he couldn't get it on the trailer. He wanted to go get it by other means but I told him to hold off until I called the police, talked to an attorney and filed it on the Fed site for internet fraud. :nopity
You were right Froggy but the third party insurance company is helping some. They want me to get the car and the title. If the title isn't clear then they own the car and I get my money back. Broward County Sheriff and FBI involved now. Also got a call from someone who claimed to be scammed by this guy too. Hope he's legit. Picking up the 89 tomorrow in Jax FL. Kept the money this time to look at car first. And the soap continues.....
