Default Jumping Idle Speed

My 94 LT1 has just developed an intermittant problem. The engine will be idling normally at 600-700 and all of a sudden it jumps to about 1200 RPM. About a second later, it returns to normal. This can be quite surprising when you're in gear at a set of lights and the car wants to jump ahead. Doesn't happen often, maybe more when the car is cold. Ideas??? Thanks in advance any any guidance.

Dan you will get more help in tech section on these kind's of questions. I have a 94 6-speed which had the same problem. I changed the TPS sensor, and the IAC sensor and found out that when the car gets hot under the hood the idle jumps around a little. Temp over 195+ in traffic and at stop lights. If I drive a long highway ride the idle stays perfect all the way there . I drove all the way to Nashville from Tampa area and it was OK. You said your vette does it when it is cold. I was told by my corvette friends it would get worst in time. So far they are wrong, been 2,500 miles later no worst. Hope this helps you a little. Good luck. George :chevy :auto:
