Hi all .. the AC in my 1996 has been acting strangely. The car has been in storage for a couple of months. Last weekend I was out driving, it was very hot, so I immediately put the AC on 10. It was just blowing hot air for several minutes. So, I turned it off, then back on, no luck. I clicked it down to 1, then cold air began pouring out. As I increased it up to 10, one digit at a time, it did fine.
I went back home then left again a couple hrs later. Same thing, I had to start at 1. But this time, the AC didn't blow cold at 1. Then after a couple of minutes of fooling with it, it began working again.
Anybody have this problem before? Any idea on what the culprit is?
Was it really humid? I didn't have this problem on my Vette, but oddly enough, with a tractor. When it was crazy humid it would almost "freeze up", maybe because of moisture? Not sure how to help, but i've seen that problem before.
The electronic climate control will start off at 0 and work its way up as you start to drive the car. If you are sitting still it is a PITA to get it to start cooling down by hitting the fan to go faster. Corvette engineers did this to actually assist in cooling the car down. The cockpit is designed to allow the hot air inside to exit the car. As the hot air leaves, the A/C blower starts getting faster. They give a better explaination about this in the owners manual. Happens to me everytime I disconnect the battery. Does it for the first couple of times I start up the car.
