Hi Gang,
I'm a new guy on the block. Don't have a Vette yet but hope to sometime in the next year or so. I've been reading your pearls of wisdom for the past few weeks and decided to register and try to pick a few brains. I've narrowed the field to either an '87 or '93 (leaning toward the '93 since I'm not much of a wrench and adding 60 hp to an L98 would probably cost me more than the $3000 or so difference in price). Any thoughts?
Welcome..I think all years are great...but if you had the money go with the 92 and up....more power....and beter looking interior in my opinion.
Welcome!!! You will find a wealth of information here. Learn to use the search function and look in the archived sections, most questions you may have will show lots of info there. The LT1 is a great motor, Youl'l be happy with one!
Don't be afraid of the L98, it won't take near $3000 to run with the stock LT1s; the LT1 has 55chp more and they are about 1/2 sec apart at the traps. But the L98 responds quite well to several simple mods that will put it into the mid 13sec range.
I suggest you check out and drive each car of interest and select the one that you realy like best. If you chose the L98, I suggest an '88 or better an '89; if you go for the LT1, try for a '95 as I believe they had the improved opti-spark yet still had OBD-1.
Go for the overall car with it's looks and features, not just the motor; you can get either to run low 12s.
Good luck in your search and you can't go wrong as either way it'll be a Corvette.
Welcome and good luck on your search. Identify the "must" requirements of the Vette you want, e.g., color(ext.&int.), trans. engine, mileage, etc. and then take your time searcing. The LT-1 is great and you won't regret going for the 300hp. For your info., the '94 and up interior changed - contour of dashboard, instruments, added storage compartments in doors, etc. I found my baby using cars.com and autotrader.com on the Internet. Good luck and you can't imagine fun and enjoyment you are going to get from owning and careing for your Vette. Always wave! Steve S.
Welcome to the forum. I would suggest, as others have, that you look at several different C4's to see what you like best. There were changes in the body, interior and obviously the engines. Decide what you really would like in options, interior, engine...etc and that will help you narrow down the choices. Good luck!! :)
Thanks for the welcomes, encouragement, and advice. I checked out autotrader.com and found a number of possibilities in my area. Seems like a lot of cars have over 100K on them. What do you guys think is excessive miliage? what kinds of things are likely to be broken at 100K. I'm trying to budget for repairs as well as purchase price.
