Hey, I was thinkinhg about my coil today, dont ask why..just was...lol.
When I replaced the Cap, rotor button. plugs and wires 11,000 miles ago, I didnt replace the coil because everything seemed to be ok..
BTW, the Coil, Rotor button, Cap, plugs and wires were all the originals that came on it in 85. The car has 118,000 miles on it. Should I replace the coil?
It starts slow, as Ive mentioned before, could it be due to poor spark?
How many volts is the original coil?
Should i go Stock>?
Is it HEI?
How is the Davis Hi-Voltage coil?
Is MSD good? There coil involves no mods.
How many volts is too many volts?
OK I replaced the coil in my '85 just recently with the stock coil. It's plenty hot for stock to mild mods. Also, there was a recall on the original coil. However, with your mileage, it must not have been a problem. As for your other questions, I'd post them in th C4 Tech/Performance section. I did notice that some of the other coils won't let you use your distributor cover.
With the amount of miles on your car, I would think that your starting problem is a leaking injector. Usually when a coil goes bad, it won't throw any spark to the plugs at all.
I replaced the coil on my 87 with an ACCEL unit. (You have to buy a special coil cover to replace the original cover because the coil sits high). My Vette had 136,000 miles on the clock amd I was doing an R&R tuneup, so I guess I figured that a coil that had fired a gazillion times or so would be a good investment to replace. I wasn't sorry, what with new plugs, wires, cap and rotor, it really gave my old gal new zip and vastly improved the idle. The first time I got on the pedal, the rear wheels broke loose! Scared the hell out of myself!!
