I bought a supposed to be 90 tach and cluster set off ebay , the tach don't work and neither does mine so the plan was to put mine on the shelf for future repair and install an after market tach in the one I bought , I noticed above the left side of the tach I just bought there is writing which no doubt lights up when installed " an arrow the word shift one to four " I checked out mine , still in the car with a flash light and it does not have this I call shift light ! My thought , this cluster is for a standard not an automatic , yet the seller swears it came out of a automatic 90 corvette
Help :smash:
1 to 4 would be for the skip shift on the ZF tranny. It lights up when it tries to force you to go from first to fourth. He's probably telling the truth, GM wouldn't make two different instrument clusters just because of a light that you'll never see unless it's lit up.
I thought all ZF's had skip shift, but if not maybe that's the difference, or maybe it was a mid year addition?
Well the guy that sold it to me tells me he has a 90 and it has the light too , the only time he said he ever seen it on was when he first turns on the key !
I can see it on this cluster even though it is not lit up , but can not see anything on the one that is in my car not even with the key on , guess I will need to do some swapping and testing before I start cutting up the wrong one !
Mine shows 4500 rpm's at idle and supposably this one does nothing , been told the 90 is a one of a kind and the problem is the tach filter , no longer available
Getting ready to go on a road trip and been fixing all those little things , got a set of side pipes to install and fix or try to fix the tach :smash:
