Recently it has been hit or miss with the wipers, so I ordered a new switch. Mine is beat and the delay was shot. I got the new one yesterday and it doesn't look like its fixed it. Sometimes it works and sometimes nothing.
What else could it be? Wiper Motor? Anyone know where that is?
Help...Hurricane Isabel is coming!!!

Ever heard of RainX? My wipers don't work sometimes. I have a bottle of RainX in the back of my car that i spray just as it starts to rain. I can see perfectly the entire ride home. I'm not worried about fixing my wipers, i'm more worried about driving in the rain.
My 88 is doing the same thing. It's the Park switch located on the back side of the windshield motor. Turn on the wipers and if they do not run on low, try this. You'll see two connectors on the motor. As you look at the motor from the front, wiggle the connector going in on the right side. 3 o'clock position. If they start, it's the park switch. I still need to replace mine. Just got over back surgery and I still can't bend over yet. :cuss
Thanks HG, but where is the wiper motor. Probably obvious when you remove the screen , but I've never had to take it off. Also, where can I find a Park Switch? Do they sell them seperate from the motor?
Thanks... :flag
The wipers in my '92 started acting up and wouldn't work on low, and then quit working completely. The problem was a faulty park switch. This is a part located inside the wiper motor. You can get to it by removing the black plastic cover from the wiper motor. You do not have to remove the wiper motor from the car.
You CAN get the park switch separately from the motor, and you're in luck because it's a lot cheaper. Mine was $36 from tld-covette.com but they don't have it in their catalog, you have to call and ask them for it.
The wiper motor is in the engine compartment, on the driver side at the top of the firewall (at least on my '92, and '88 uses the same motor so the location should be similar). It is silver colored but has a black plastic cover on the front. Two electical connectors go into it.
Just went through the same thing with the 85. Had Hi and Lo and nothing else to include nasty fact that the wipers wouldn't turn off. New switch did nothing. Problem was in the printed circuit board under the wiper cover. Computer guy took the thing apart resoldered several connections and changed one transistor. Now it works great. This approach is not for anyone not accomplished it electronics repair. Expensive solution is a new cover, which includes the board, at $136.00. Wiper motors are seldom a problem. Switches and electronics are more likely to fail.

Actually, it's a pretty easy board to resolder. All you're really doing is sucking out the old tarnished-looking solder and adding new shiny solder where the old stuff was. Quick and easy fix--really--even for the inexperienced. In fact, if you're planning on getting a new one, try this first. Then if it doesn't work you can still drop $136 into a new one! *This is GOOD experience for after you've sent your early C4 digital guage cluster off to get fixed a couple of times and it STILL doesn't work. DO IT YOURSELF TO ENSURE IT HAS BEEN RESOLDERED PROPERLY, THEN drop $2000 into a new unit!! :D
The wiper motor is on the drivers side of the firewall. Just over the brake booster. Hey Blackbird, would you like to come over and install mine. :lolg: When you remove the black cover, how does it come out. The park switch is around $40.
Actually, installation was a little strange. First, get the new part. Mine came with instructions. I had to remove one of the terminals on the new park switch. That is discussed in the instructions.
Once you disconnect both electrical connectors and remove the black plastic cover, you can see the park switch. It's held in by just one 7(?)mm screw. However, I think there was a spring loaded lever in the motor that somehow connects to the park switch. When you remove the park switch from the motor, make sure to note how everything goes together. It took me a little while to figure out how to get the new one in. I remember I did it by pulling the wiper blades about halfway up the windshield, and that helped get things in the right position to get the new switch in. I remember the instructions didn't make a whole lot of sense here, but maybe you'll be able to figure out what they're talking about. When you put the cover back on, make sure the cam is in the right position. That is also discussed in the instructions. Sorry I can't be more specific, but I hope this helps.
I have an 85 Corvette with the same problem. Wipers would not stop, delay or park but would run slow and fast speed. I bought a new switch, thinking it would fix the problem....wrong. I got out the electrical diagram and isolated the GRAY wire that leads to the wiper switch. I mounted a small 5 AMP switch just left and above on the door to the wiper switch to make/break the connection. The switch mounted about 2 inches to the right of the door handle. With the new switch in the closed position, I can run the wiper slow or fast. When I want to stop and park the wipers, I slide the wiper control switch to the Stop position....(wipers keep going), now I press the NEW switch and the wipers stop. I quickly move the new switch to the original position and the wipers will Park. Works perfectly for now...however I do not have the Delay. I decided I can live without the delay. If the wiper control switch is pulled down, the mister works fine. This is my form of delay for now. The switch cost me $2.97 at Radio Shack. Easy fix in about one hour. Worst part is getting the door back together. ;)
OK Blackbird, I thought that would be too far to travel. :yesnod: Thanks for the advice. When I get the back brace off, maybe I'll give it a try.
