1987/L98/HEI/TPI: have new MSD 8.5 wires, new cap, rotor, but looking for best suggestions for 'Spark Plugs': I was told AC Rapid Fire 5's: but like to hear from the forum on their suggestions... thanks vinnie
Stay away from Bosch +4's and Delco Platinum plugs. Non platinum delco plugs are alright, but the platinum ones have pucks that like to fall off inside your engine!
I run a normal non platinum AC Delco plug, R44LTS. That's on my LT1 though, might not be the same plug for your L98
Rapidfire's are platinum but don't have pucks. Rapidfire's are great performance plugs for Vettes. I like them better than the more expensive iridium plugs. Proper plug and gap in an AC Rapidfire for an 87 Vette is Rapidfire #5 gapped @ .045. Standard AC plug for 87 Vette is AC 41-629 gapped @ .035. Platinum plug for 87 is AC 41-800 gapped @ .035-- the AC 41-800 has the pucks to which Nathan referrs.
The Rapidfire's have a lower firing voltage requirement (advanced engineering) hence the larger gap recommended by AC Delco. Lower firing voltage = a good thing. i.e. similar benefit to installing a hotter coil...
Which heads: doing some research.. came up Alum or Iron (for 87 TPI/L98): How do you tell,
If you have an '87 you have aluminum heads. They changed from cast iron to Aluminum in mid 86. Easiest way to tell is if you have the center bolt valve covers you have aluminum heads. If your bolts are on the perimeter you have cast iron heads.
