Default Helmits?

Where is the best (i.e. cheapest) place to purchase a helmit legal for NHRA tracks?

Check with Jegs and Summit too - they have decent prices on helmets.

Great link. What is the minimum snell rating these days or do the tracks even look that closely?

Usually a "Snell 90" or better rating is required... :yesnod:

Doubt it. "M" helmets are for motorcycles. NHRA tracks and road courses generally will want a minimum of SA95. The drag strips requirements tend to be more dependent upon speed however. If you buy a new helmet you'll get an SA00

Check out http://www.helmetcity.com The prices aren't too bad and they have a decent variety. Even if you are just going drag racing, get a Snell SA2000 rated helmet. The SA rating gives you fire protection.

Don't skimp on a helmet. Someone here once said something to the effect that "if you have a $10 head, get a $10 helmet." Expect to pay around $220+ for a Bell or Simpson open-face or a bit more for a full-face design.

Try on the helmet first. They don't all fit the same.

I got a Bell cause the Simpsons didn't fit my noggin (not even the larger sizes). The guy at the raceshop where I bought mine said that one is more oval and the other is more round (I forget which one is which).
