the important thing is that it is breathable and scratch resistant. if it's for the outside you obviously want it to be water proof and uv protectant and make sure that it is mildew resitant. i bought a NOAH car cover and it works great. they range from $130-$150.

That's good advice. Mine is in the garage so I got a cheapo breathable cover. The waterproof ones cost a lot more--get a garage instead :D !
Get a good one that's for outside, because there might be that one time you have to have one. I use MaxTech. It's four layer and it's $99.00 at Corvette America. It's made for whatever era you want to get. It comes with a storage bag and lock, a lot of them you have to purchase it seperately. A local Corvette dealer uses only them for years and can't say enough about them. I really like it. Another good one is the Noah one. Best of luck on whatever one you pick!
Why are you looking for a heavier cover? Protection from rubs and impact?
I bought a Covercraft Weathershield for my '92 after I had tried a few others and asked about a few more - it is just DIFFERENT! It is very light, relatively thin and totally waterproof! I was worried about condensation under it, but even light breezes make it "wander around" a little and get plenty of air circulation in there. I just make sure I fold it up correctly so the inside surface stays dust free and shove it in the bag - stow it in back. I wipe the car down when I get home with my duster - haven't had any trouble with abrasion at all!
I wouldn't trade it for any other one - little pricey though (a little over $200), but after paying damn near $4K on fresh paint, it's a worthwhile investment! Hell, you can even launder the thing in your washer due to the little bulk it has!
I have been using it while the car is outside (from April until October) - working on the SO for a new garage - fighting with the zoning people as they have a difference of opinion as to what size garage I can have!
Just a technicality on the use of "waterproof" vs. water-resistant. A suitable outdoor car cover is not waterproof, it is water-resistant. You really do not want a waterproof car cover, as it would not allow the car to "breathe" - causing more harm than good.
That said, I have a Noah cover made by Wolf. Kimberly-Clark manufactures the material, and various companies produce the covers from it. While the car has not spent a night outside while I have owned it, I wanted a cover that would offer me the option of outdoor use just in case. I have been very pleased with it's indoor use and know of others that also like it for outdoor protection. Cost was $150.00 through Eckler's and that included a cable/lock/bag.
Some companies (such as CoverCraft) will send you material samples if you call and request them. Reseaching your options and actually having the material in your hand may make your decision easier. :)
