I am going to copy and paste something someone sent me...have any of you ever heard of anything like this:
"Now for some technical reasons this is a good car to buy if you are looking for a LT4 powered Vette. If you know much about the LT4 motor you will know exactly what I am going to explain. If not, you may get a raised eyebrow or two. The LT4 motor is a great, powerful motor but it has a built in expensive repair waiting to happen any time after 50,000 miles. Most sellers and buyers are not aware of this problem. If a seller is aware of this, usually nothing will be said. If the work has not been done, the buyer will not become aware of it until he (or she) becomes the one to experience it. Problem---- The clutch goes out (slips badly) because of the LT4 has a special 2 piece shock absorbing flywheel that has hydraulic fluid sealed in the center section. The seal goes out, fluid runs on to the clutch disc---you get the picture. Everything has to be replaced and it is very expensive. (The flywheel assy. alone lists for over $1100.00) When I say everything, I am talkin!
g about the flywheel assembly, clutch disc, pressure plate, throw out bearing, pilot bearing, and all U-joints (since you are in the area). If you are going to do it right. You can cheap-out and replace only the saturated disc, clean the rest up and leave the defective flywheel and old pressure plate, etc., in and get by for a while longer, but other problems will arise. All this work, with all the correct parts (completely) has been done to this car and most importantly, done correctly because there are a number of other details that most mechanics are not aware of. There were many other things taken care of at this time that would take too long to list and explain here. So, if you are serious about a Collectors Edition Vette, especially one with a LT4 motor, call me and spend a few minutes. This Vette would be a great one to fill your wants or needs. Having all of the pending repairs done and done correctly, along with other upgrades not mentioned, this may be the V!
Sounds like a FUD post to me. There are numerous people on the forum with over 50,000 miles on an LT4 and I don't recall anyone bitching about major clutch repairs.
I've never heard that the dual mass flywheel has any kind of fluid in it. It's also the first I've ever heard about the dual mass flywheel failing at any kind of interval.
Sounds to me like he's just trying to make his lower mileage car with all these repairs done to it sound better than a higher mileage car that hasn't had all these repairs.
Thats what I was thinking too guys!! This is the first I have ever heard of this sort of failure. I figure if it is that common, there would be posts all over the C4 section about it. Thanks for the piece of mind...I didn't know if this was something I was ignorant to when I purchased my CE last year.

Re: ZF6/LT4 problem? (Nathan Plemons)
I think the guy's perpetuating an urban myth.
My '96 GM Manual says this:
"The dual mass flywheel is made of nodular iron and weighs 36.2 pounds. The design employs a primary and a secondary flywheel system. The system is connected by two rows of torsional damper springs, with the interface riding on a ball bearing arrangement. Because engine combustion impulse causes rattle,.....the dual mass flywheel design minimizes rattle in the transmission gears."
