Default Interior Cleaning

I recently purchased a 1996 C.E. with the red interior. The car has very low mileage. Some of the plastic that is put on the carpeting at the factory was still in place. When I removed the plastic there was a sticky residue left in some areas of the carpeting. Also the adhesive was left on some areas of the red part of the door panels, where the door closes against the sill.

On the driver's side, the previous owner apparently drove the car with some tar on his shoes. Residue from the tar was left on the carpet and also on the vinyl inserts in the carpet.

Are there any suggestions as to how to safely remove the residue from the carpeting and the door panels.

Also what is the best product or products available for general cleaning of the carpeting and the vinyl on the doors.

One product you need is Tuff Stuff, it will clean that grease up off the carpets it's the best and it will work. It has saved me on my carpets in the house from kids. Sometimes Goop (hand cleaner) is really good to for tar. Both you can get at Wal-Mart. Congrats on the new ride! :auto:

Long ago (before college), in a place not too far away (Cleveland), I worked for a Porsche dealer, cleaning up cars.

Here's what I learned: Use Kerosene. It will get out most anything. Be liberal with it. Kerosene is a great solvent and will evaporate away. Plus, your able to enjoy a great buzz for the next week. But not too much :nono: or you'll go blind.

If that doesn't work, try some simple green or purple cleaner, full strength. Then, take a shop vac and, while misting water from a hose onto the carpets, or whatever, suck it out with the shop vac.

This might sound crazy, but it's the best way to clean your interior. You have to extract all the soap. Othewise, your carpets will show dirt and stains in short order. If your carpets are too wet, run the A/C for awhile. They'll dry out.
