I was looking at a 96-6spd last night, it had about 91K on it, but the engine still seems very strong, the body and interior seems to be in decent shape...the dealer is asking $13K...I think it's a fair price,
but here is the problem - there seems to be a rattling that shakes the car when you start to approach 40mph, the rattling is coming from the rear...the salesman claimed that it was b/c the back window wasn't closed correctly :bs I even stopped the car and closed the back window twice, and still got the same problem...I noticed that it rattles and shakes even in park with just the engine revving up to 4grand or so!
should I stay away? or is this an easy fix?...I've been thinking on the problem...and the only thing I can think of at this time is that maybe the spare tire was loose?
assuming the problem isnt to bad it does sound like a good deal! i got my LT4 coupe with 120k miles for 12k! when i bought mine it had a really bad vibration that got unbearable at 80mph. turned out to be nothing more than a tire out of balance. not quite sure what to make of your situation since you say it rattles bad at idle. how far away is this car from where you live? see if you can take it to your regular meachnic. and you might be on to something with the spare. mine is not bolted down though or anyting and it doesnt rattle at all so its hard to tell. good luck either way!
Is this a Chevy dealership? Ask them to fix it, and warrant the repair. At a minimum, ask if you can take it to a mechanic to have the rattle looked at, and get a price on repairing it...then ask them to adjust the price of the car, and you will have it repaired.
Tell the dealer to fix the rattle and you'll take it. If not tell the sales guy to rev it up in park while you stand outside the car to see if you can tell where the rattle is coming from.
yes, I meant with the car in neutral and revving the engine, I can feel the
rattel comming somewhere from the back of the car.
The car is located at a local small used car dealer, I stopped by this morning and one of the salesman claimed that they would fix the problem..but quoted a different price of 14,900 when I said I'd be interested if they got the problem fixed , is this a fair price for a 96 with about 91K on it?
I'm hoping it's a loose muffler or something simple, as the engine does not vibrate or shake at all when the engine is revved up...
is there anything else I should check, when I go back to take a look at it this weekend. I owned a 79, and 69 and have done the usual check for rust, cracks, weatherstripping, etc...
btw, does it get easier to get in and out of C4's after awhile, or do you just get use it
Yeah, I would say that is a fair price for an LT4 car with 91,000 miles if they fix the rattle....but they should still let you take it to a mechanic for your own inspection!
I dunno, the LT4 is AWEFUL NICE :D But with 91K is it still worth $15? I guess its pretty fair.
I just paid $15.5 for my 96 LT1 Auto and its got 43K on it. Its Perrrrrfect in every aspect.
If this car is clean otherwiseThen I guess its worth close to that.
well lik ei said earlier i got mine with 120k miles for $12k but when i went to my bank to ask them about a loan for something else they asked me if i wanted my car put up as collaterall cause the book value was 19k!
I don't see any mention of the car being a LT4.
Rattle from the back of the car? Exhaust?
If the car is parked nothing else is moving. Take Eric 96's advise.
Have it checked, its called a pre-buy inspection.
Also get a warranity.
Because that is probably how much its going to cost them to fix the rattle. They probably know what it is already! I would get them to come down that much on the car, and then go get it fixed myself!
thanks for all the responses...I'll see what the story is tomorrow.
Unfortunately, the vette guy I was going to closed shop last year, said he was burned out  , I'll probably pass on it if I can't figure out where the rattle is coming from, or if they won't fix it
