Got smoked today...not happy
I was out cruising in the '89 A4 when I happen to see a Mustang up ahead. So I go and catch up. He has a 4" Cowl hood and some nice wheels. Line up going around 30 mph just for the hell of it (it was a 55) and after a little cruising I punch it to hit the speed limit. I punched it first, then I hear his car roar into life and he is over a length and a half ahead of me by the time I hit sixty. Since we didn't feel like getting a ticket or actually racing I didn't push it and it was obvious that his car was a lot faster.
He had a worked over 306, cam, exhaust, drag suspension, skinnies in front...I think the '89 needs some work.

You got beat by a heavily modded drag car. What's the big deal? I wouldn't drop ca$h on mods just over that. It was, after all, a purpose-modded drag car (based on your description).

Yeah, I know. The guy was pretty cool, and he was a little surprised that I actually gave him a thumbs up and chatted with him.
The 'vette still needs some mods for it though (it is bone stock and still has the frisbee on it)...cam, heads, blower, etc. etc.
His car was a lot faster than I expected until I heard him open it up.

Don't feel bad dude, I got smoked off the line by a friend's modded out bug(set for drag of course). But then we hit 70 mph and I took off like a bat outta hell doin 165 while his ugly butt bugmobile was in my rearview with the rest of the dust :D  He was smilin at first till he started frowning when I accelerated. Hehehe.

I guess people forget how fast a well tuned 5 liter Mustang can be. You never know what youre dealing with when you run up on one of those. Good luck next time. :seeya

Sucks when it is a mustang though :yesnod:. I tangled with a Cobra SVT the other day. I was able to pull on him although not as fast as I'm used to with Mustangs. He almost lost it in a curve though while I went sailing by. I let him do the expect flyby after that since I figured my point had been proven.

I'm not sure why but I don't get many "offers" on the street these days. In fact I've had a few Stangs and even F-bodies pull over to let me past.
Anyway, if it's time for the mods to begin on your '89 Vette check out data on results of mods to an L98 on my site, link in my sig. below. This will give you some idea of the potential of your L98 while retaining very good street maners.
Oh btw, before taking on someone...always...always...check out the tires they are running. Skinnies or ET streets are a dead give away that you should probably "let it ride".
