Question about a brake squeak
Just noticed today that my brakes are makin a little sqeak when I push down on em and only when I push down on em after I'm moving. It's a tiny squeak that's barely noticeable, but could it be the pads? Any suggestions?

Actually, it's kinda wierd. It was soft yesterday, but today it sounds louder. It's more like a loud whistle screech than anything rubbing against anything else. Sounds like screeching rubber tires but to a more whistle-like degree. Dunno how to better describe it. BTW I just had my rotors for the rear done aswell as a new power brake booster installed. Rotors were done within the last 2 months and I think the pads were replaced, but I gotta check my receipts. I know the sound the indicator makes for new pads.....that happened to me 2 months ago. It sounds like metal against metal and its consistent when you drive and not just when you hit the brakes. This is only when you hit the brakes and sounds totally different. My guess now is brake dust maybe in the cv boot or somethin? I dunno, but I'm gonna take it to the mechanic tomorrow morning first thing. Thanks all

Yup.. the rotors can get glazed or dirty and cause this. What happens, is the contamination on the rotors will cause the pads to vibrate, and the shoes (back of the pads) squeak against the caliper.
I'd try cleaning them off with brake cleaner, or even doing a few hard (but brief) stomps on the brake pedal.
They also sell some spray-on stuff "Disc Brake Quiet" that you put on the BACKSIDE of the pads/shoes like I mentioned to prevent the squeaking noise even if the rotors get glazed/dirty.

Re: Question about a brake squeak (MaSTeRofDZaSTeR)
Yep you guys were right. Brake dust. My mechanic said it probably happened when it rained heavily here a week ago. The brake pads are big on c4s he said so it shouldn't be an uncommon thing..which it doesn't sound like it is. I tried backin up and braking a few times and it seemed to work a little by pushin out the crap, but he put some brake cleaner on it anyway and it hasn't squeaked since. Thanks all  Learned somethin new.
