First time checking plugs. Wanted to see how difficult it was to get them out. Got the passenger side out. Learned alot, skinned some knuckles(and kinda enjoyed it). Then looked at the drivers side. Did not even attempt. No manual yet, but it looks like the ac unit etc has to move to get to the front plug(or you have to be some kind of houdini) What does it take to get to all those plugs? Any info appreciated
What year do you have? On my '85 I use a flex-head socket and different length extensions to get mine out. I can do the plugs in my car in about 30 to 45 minutes. :yesnod:
On the older C4s there is a plastic access panel in the inner wheel well just above the shock tower that can be removed to access the front spark plugs.
The driver's side is pretty easy believe it or not. Remove the rear wheel liner (skirt) and the center portion (sits above where shock mounts). Where the two pieces meet, the second bolt down from the top when removed free's the ASR unit. Remove the drive belt and the belt tensioner if you need access to the opti spark for changing wires for the left bank (drivers side). Come in from underneath the hoses and ASR and you'll have direct easy access to the plugs. There isn't much room to use a torque wrench to tighten them, but I would suggested getting the feel of the required torque on the passenger side plugs. You shouldn't need any more than a normal plug socket and I like to use a universal swivel plug socket. 3/8 drive and a small extension.
To make life easy on the #8 plug rear most plug on passenger side, use a standard plug socket which usually has a wrench end, and then use a open end wrench to loosen and tighten the socket.
