Anybody using the conversion kit from Mid America and others for making C4 turn lights act like the daytime running lights on the C5? I think it is a good idea and would like to add it to our 95 Coupe. I was wondering if anybody had comments on installing the kit and using the lights. Thanks in advance.
I have a kit on mine. I decided to put it on after a few "close calls" where people didn't seem to see me! Steel Blue Metallic looks like a shiny piece of NC DOT pavement! I did not go for the MAD kit. I used the one from www.webelectricproducts.com.
i have it. easy to install but the instructions are a little iffy. i had to figure it out myself. anyhow i like them. i think they look good and all that. email me if you have questions.
Please guys don't do it...I'm a member of drivers against DTRLs; our government is trying to legislate them to be mandatory.
Do you realy like having an SUV behind you with DTRLs on?
A few days ago I was nearly side swiped by a woman who drifted into my lane doing 65mph on the GSP. I had to lay on the horn go "wake her up" enough for her to pull back slowly into her own lane. Such an incident wouldn't have been avoided by DTRLs; those people just don't watch what they are doing.
If you like cruzin with driving lights on, just pull the **** out to the 1st stop.
No Clarion CD yet. Been working six day weeks getting a big proposal in. I am gearing up for after the New Year when life returns to normal, I hope!! Thanks for you info on the CD install. I will let you know how it turns out.
I installed them, think they look cool on the black car. Didn't get a kit, just bought a $2 relay and patched a direct line to the ignition hot and to the battery I tossed in a $3 fuse just in case
Everything in Canada has DRLs; SUVs and 4X4s coming up behind me - even in the vette don't bother me in the least. The DRLs, even thru headlights (like my Silverado) are less power than low beam. Combine that with daytime ambient light and they don't seem bright at all.
I really don't know if they prevent accidents, I just don't think it harms anything.

This isn't the same. For one, this turns on the marker lights all around, not just on the front, and for two, a drl kit with the proper relays and diodes like the webelectric products link one will actually burn the blinkers not the parking lights all the time which are about twice as bright and imo look much better.... :smash:

I respectfully disagree. Isn't that like saying someone rear-ended me, and that wouldn't have been prevented by DRL? Kids being thrown from vehicles aren't prevented by the third brake light either, that would be the restraints job. Each device has its own reason that can't possible prevent all other things.
I only like DRLs at dusk, about 15 minutes before total darkness when a ton of absolute morons drive around with no lights on. And, I think that is what the whole thing is about. .01% morons cause us to have mandatory equipment. DRLs aren't like motorcycle helmets, which is a Darwin safety device. Not having your lights on and being invisible at dusk costs others their lives.
As to how they look. Thats up to each person. I like it. :D
Saw a road test on DRLs and it was amazing how much farther you can see a car with lights on.
One of the electronic gurus should post a how to make your own:cheers:
Sure I even click my parking & running lights on through a long underpass on the GSP, simply from lack of trust of some other drivers being alert in such conditions.
But I don't think that DRLs are necessary during daylight hours in the USA. Even on a cloudy day I can see another car over 1/2 mile away; that's certainly enough early warning for my driving speeds.
Also if we become accustomed to only noticing vehicles with DRLs I think it will lead to more accidents with vehicles not using them. And studies have shown that they can lead to driver fatigue and distraction as they tend to create a visual "white noise".
And of course it's another "safety" cost adder for the auto manufacturers and not bad for the aftermarket people either.
I just ordered the DRL module. For the price, I hope it works OK. The one in the mag's are priced too high
