I have them on mine. I bought them for 'her' when she turned 100K.
I like them. I bought the 43160 set from Ecklers.
They have two keys with them. Basically its like the shape of the cap oversized with two angles missing and it fits sideways over the cap. You squeeze it as your turn it two turns then it turns normally the rest of the threads. To put them on 5 turns normally then two with the key.
I suppose the downside is it may take a few more minutes to check your air pressure. Or if your having it serviced you'd have to remove them before turning it over to the tech person, unless you want to give them the key and show them how.
I also had metal covered values installed when I had my new tires put on. They had two sizes and I chose the shorter ones so with the caps the don't stick way out or anything. I'll try to put a picture here, it was before I put the new tires and values on.
Hubby had his chrome valve stem caps with the American flag on them stolen (yes, all 4!) at a cruise night when he went into the restaurant for some dinner!! I re-ordered the caps with locks...at a much higher price!! Is it worth it? Yes!!
It's come up before and I seem to remember almost everyone complained about them constantly getting swiped....
:withstupid:
Had the $25 caps and after 2 were stolen at a cruise-in, I found the $29 ones that lock on.
These have a special key that grabs just the inner threaded area and not the chrome part. This way you can try to take it off and it just spins in your fingers.
They look just like the old ones, but are impossible to take off!
I have them, got'em at no cost. No one has commented on them or stolen them; they are just not very visible. I have ordered white dice caps to replace them, they match my paint, no kidding! :D
Getting the locking ones will prevent kids from stealing them, but the keys are the same for all, so if I had a set, I could steal yours if I wanted. Just something to think about, not everything is foolproof.
They are called "chromies" and the kids steal them and trade them. I lost two in about 10 days. They normally only take one at a time. I now have three replacements in my glove box. I decided to buy them at Pep Boys ($1.99 pack of four). Frankly, I'm afraid of the damage they might do if they come face to face with lockable caps.
And to just think that I just put C4 logo caps on mine?
They're all still there though! But then again the car hasn't been out of the garage since! :smash:
