I finally got the water pump off, had a broken lower water pump bolt that froze or corroded to the water pump housing. In the process of trying to get the water pump off with that frozen broken bolt and unable to pull the water pump straight off the front, I also broke the splinned shaft from the timing cover to the water pump coupler. Now I have to take off the optic spark dist. and the timing cover to replace the water pump gear and shaft that drives off the camshaft gear.
My question is, should I bump crank the engine over till it reaches TDC before I remove the optic spark dist. and the timing chain and gear to replace the water pump shaft gear. Is there anything I should do before I remove the optic spark dist. and with the balancer in the crankshaft?
Any help would much b appreciated once again!
I plan to use ARP stainless steel water pump bolts and never seizing the bolts and teflon tape the threads too. I wish I know how to post pic on here to show u the condition of the water pump bolts that I took out. The car only has 41k and is oringinally from TX. :banghead:
I hope I reach you before you fixed everything. Here's why: You are in a great position to replace that OEM water pump with one that will work much better; an electric water pump. Check out tools>tech tips>C4>Meziere coolant pump install. And as far as the opti-spark, replace it. Currently the best replacement seems to be the Dyno-Tech's Dyna-Spark (left column), however, in your case (95) the OEM opti-spark will be okay.
