Hi,
In my search for the "perfect" C4 for me I got this bit of information from a local vette club member: "...stay away from the 1990 vette. They had a lot of electrical problems in that year. Try to buy a '91 or newer..."
Is this a generally true statement? I looked at the recal bulletins and some of the service bulletins that came out for those early 90's vettes and I don't see much difference. Of course service bulletins don't always tell you how often a problem occurred. They just tell you that Chevy was aware of some problems and gave advice on how to correct them. If there were some commonly occurring electrical problems are they fairly easy to correct?
Thank you for your information. If you own a 1990 vette, please don't be offended by my question.
Glen

Re: Electrical gremlins in '90 C? (olefam)
I have a 90 with no problems. I have read that there are some contacts under the car that can go bad and cause the INF RST light to come on. I have not had the problem though and I may have mis spelled the name of the light. :D
I too have had the INF REST light but that's an easy fix...I've not had any other electrical issues in the four years. I too wonder what the source is?
The only two noted electrical problems with the 90 is the Inflation light for the air bag sensor and the terrible C130 alternator that was common for 89-91 (I think). The C130 alternator can be upgraded to a 140 amp or replaced with a PowerMaster and will no longer give you any trouble.
Thanks everyone.
I don't know what this gentlemans source of information is either. That's why I thought I'd run by the forum members for an "educated" second opinion. Lord knows that corvettes are expensive enough to maintain without buying one that has a reputation for being trouble prone. Obviously most of you feel that the '90 was/is no worse than any other C4 as far as elctrical problems go.
