Okay...so...I've had my Vette for a year now. She was in sad shape when I brought her home and what a difference a year (and a good deal of my disposable income) makes! I've learned alot in the last twelve months both behind the wheel and from this forum. The most interesting thing though has been the sheer tonnage of challenges that I receive while driving my Vette...
I guess my question is really this...how often do you guys get challenged? And by what?
It seems like every swingin' d*ck out there wants to race a Vette. From mustangs to ricers to pickup trucks to suv's, even motorcycles, family sedans and round Bavarian vehicles! What's up with that?!
I've had fast cars most of my life and with the possible exception of my 69 Chevelle I've never been challenged like this. Right after I got my car a friend of mine that has a C3 told me "everyone wants to race a Vette". I thought he was kidding but rarely a drive goes by that I'm not challenged in some fashion; and I drive her to work almost daily. From actually bouncing their car next to me or blipping the throttle at a light or chirping the tires to (and this really chaps my azz) taildragging my rear bumper. On the flip side, it's a rare (and I do mean RARE) occasion when a Camaro wants to challenge and to date only one other Vette has challenged me (and I return the courtesy).
I think the Official etiquette on the forum is to get the guy to meet you at the stripp Friday night. Put up or shut up! You're right though. I get challenged all the time. I'm not going to say wether I race them. :jester
I agree , everytime I drive the car,, I get some type of challenge. Sometimes its a pain in the AZZ, but sometimes????????? Jerks...... But never by a T/A or a Camaro, never,,, I wonder why,,,
I take it as a compliment and ignore 'em. By challenging a Corvette they acknowledge its reputation as the supreme legendary sportscar. They will race, but until they beat a Vette, their car will forever be inferior.
Having said that, I must admit I just don't get the whole stoplight challenge thing. Do they really wanna race a car that'll go 170?? I don't, not without helmet, firesuit, rollcage, and paramedics nearby. Maybe there are unwritten rules about when to let up, but I'd think if your car is fast, then you don't let up until you win, and at those kinda speeds you'd better be all prayed up. :blueangel:
I rarely get a challenge when out in the Vette...maybe the NHRA sticker on the left side of the hatch glass or the permanent track registration numbers on the other side scares em off.
In fact, last summer while rapidly pullying away from a delaying accident scene on the GS Parkway, I had a Mustang move over to let me blow by; I thought that was real respect. :yesnod: So, I didn't disappoint him; all he say was round tail lights...fadeing into the distance.

Re: Challenges...? (MtlSphere)
I seem to get challenged everyday. Most of the time, I just let it go. But every once in a while, I get that stupid feeling come over me and feel that I need to spank them for even thinking about it. So far, the only REAL CHALLENGE has come from a Mustang Cobra SVT. I could not get away from him nor he from me. ( They must have a few wild ponies under those hoods)
Most challenges come from trucks and ricers in town. Mustangs and exotics on the interstate. (Exotics = Ferrai, Porche,Jags......) I think we should save the hard core racing for closed circuits. :auto: :reddevil
