With all the smoke and ash in the air here in SoCal, decided to wash the Suburban since it sits outside. Didn't get the top and hood finished before there was another 1/8" of cr*p on the roof. But what the hey, started it, finished it and it still looks poopie. I remember reading somewhere that ash has a lot of acid in it and can ruin clearcoat and paint if left to long. Vette has to be washed now, but I can put her in the garage.
To those whose lives have been devastated by these fires, my prayers are with you. :blueangel:

Re: Exercise in futility (subman)
Ashes are quite alkaline, the opposite of acidic, but just as harmful. You other guys in SoCal, don't wash until the air is free of ash or wash inside an enclosed car wash.
PS. A good coat of carnuba will protect the paint, but might need renewing itself.
We're gonna' be covered in ash for several weeks, you can bet.
