Tranny question
I just bought a 1986 with an auto transmission. It seems to shift just fine, but it will jerk your teeth out when you go from Park to Drive. Is this normal or do I need to get it checked out.

feels like the slam is in the U joints or the rear end to me. I hate it.

My buddy has an '84 that does the same thing. We put it up on the lift with him inside and me below. He shifted back and forth while I checked for slop. Tight as a drum. :confused: Guess it's the nature of the beast.

Once my idle was fixed about a year ago, it does it quite often kinda like one big power thrust when going from park to drive or reverse to drive. I think its kinda cool...kinda like it wants to unleash. It does seem pretty normal though from what I hear in the 700R4. So I don't think its a sign of a bad transmission necessarily nor any real problem other than your preference to a non-jerky tranny obviously. Just take care of the tranny and don't neglect it. Mine's a 90 and it still does it often so I wouldn't really worry about it. I've had zero tranny probs, but I also take care of mine with microlubricants every 6,000 miles and tranny service every 12K.
