The '86 I bought is black. I can get the paint looking pretty good, but the mouldings are down right awful. Previous owners must have waxed the mouldings too. Any tips on getting the black mouldings back to black. I thought about using a tire shine like Armor All. Any helpful tips would be appreciated.

Check the catalogs I believe there is a freshen or kit of something like that.

If its the original finish on the beltline molding,After you wash your car wipe them with wax and grease cleaner then yes Mothers Back to black will make it look good. Just let it dry good before it sees rain or it will run all over the paint.

Re: Black is the question (VettBrat)
I know what you're talkin about. No one notices em on mine except me and I've kinda been thinkin the same lately....cuz it only is really noticeable to me at night. I do know there are some products out there just for trimmings and such, but before you use it on your moldings I'd DEFINITELY recommend using a clay bar. I'm planning on doing the same this weekend. It's one of the secrets that no one will tell you unless they own a black vette....claybars are definitely a MUST if you wanna keep your vette lookin its best. Especially if you have an 86. :seeya
Meguire's Endurance. Lasts a long time and comes with a handy applicator. I usually do mine about once a month and after application I wipe the mouldings down with a towel to remove any excess.

Turtle wax color cure car polish. The black stuff will darken up your rubber strip. I use it on the unpainted parts of my vette that are supposed to be black, even though turtle wax doesn't recommend it.
