Another tunner shop give up on LT1's...
...and this one hurts. 21st Century Muscle Car, Dallas's Ligenfelter shop, is no longer working on LT1's. Spoke with John Page today, seems they are doing so little work on LT1/4's, that they don't have the gaskett's etc on hand, and their techs are getting rusty on our engines as they are working almost exlusivley on LS1/5's. Getting hard for them to make ends meet when they work on our cars. John and Carey are goodfolks, they acknowledge I've been a customer since they have opened. But business is buisiness, if they don't make a buck they won't be in business.
John is shoping arround for me, cam is next mod for my beauty, and he is trying to find someone who will do a quality install.
I'll let you know how that turns out.
See you guys.

That's wierd. I mean, a smallblock chevy is a small block chevy (only major variance is whether distributor is by crank or back of the motor.) Anyway, you'd think as easy as it is to get parts, what's the difference between building LS1's or LT1's?
Wierd.
Hope you find a reliable builder for your baby.

Go to DRM in Minneapolis, they are still LT1/4/5 engine fans
If you do want a hot engine built...Myron does build a great engine at TPIS here in MN.

[QUOTE]I wouldn't touch DRM unless you want to be without your car for 8 months or so...also, inspect everything you get from them (lots of stories in the past two years).QUOTE]
What's supposed to be the problem with DRM? That's where I had mine dynoed.

It is indeed a sad day when a guy from Texas has to go to Minnesota or New York to have a cam installed...geez... :(

they could have been honest and admitted that they would rather cater to the latest model car people due to the simple fact that the owners dont mind handing over serious cash to modfiy a car thats already more than most owners will use.
why spend a day putting a cam in an lt1 for 500 cash when you can plug a laptop into a ls1/5 car and tap some keys and charge em a grand for it.
no gaskets needed.
you cant blame em.but it aint right.
you dont want em working on your vette if they're not enthusiasts.
they are obviously in it strictly for the buck.
the concern about the mechs being rusty infers they are commision mechs, another red flag.
an hrly or salaried mechanic will give you the most attention to detail for your dollar.
find someone who is a dedicated car nut.and remember theres a lot of gm models that ran the lt1.
good luck with her

Sad thing about a tuner is...most of them (not all) are bad with money and bad with customer service.
They get into it because they are a good mechanic and understand cars...ooops...you have to deal with people too? Collect taxes? Pay bills? I wanna work on cars!!
Some of them also made reputations off other people that worked for them...once those folks leave, the work slips (head guys, tuners, suspension guru, etc.).
The other thing I can recommend is get involved with the NCCC chapter nearest to you, and talk with the folks on where they get their work done. If someone praises a tuner a lot...find out how much work has been done for them (I've heard people praise tuners with 1 minor experience).
You may uncover a gem nearby you didn't know about!

Call David over at the Corvette Shop off of I-35. If he can't do it, he may be able to guide you to someone that will. I have taken a couple of my older cars over to him and he did quality work at fair prices. Good Luck.

You have to go where the money is to keep the shop open. Right now LSx engines are where the bucks are.
