Default throttle body question

I hope that this question doesn't seem to stupid, but I'm new at this. I would like to spray clean the throttle body in my 87 vette as outlined in the e-magazine article. Should I do it while the engine is running? Should I just spray it and let it soak for awhile? Do I need to reconnect the the filter before I start the engine? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
By the way, is this the proper forum for this question?

Just spray it in and let it soak. Then clean it out with a plastic tooth brush and rag.

You will have to start it after you are done to clear the stuff that is inside the plenum. You can run it w/o the filter, and spray some more into the intake with the RPM's raised.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I took mine off recently to clean it. I am a garage amateur, and this was an easy job. 15 minutes off and 15 minutes on, with about an hour to clean. Then you can get into the plenum with some carb cleaner. Buy a new gasket to replace the old one. Mine was not very bad so I didn't see much difference, but if your is bad you may see some improvement in power. I did not open the IAC. I have learned my limitations the hard way..........

I have recently cleaned my TB, plenum, and runners....... I know it has been done before becouse I found that my plenum and runners have been ported..... But you will see a difference, a big difference...,, be sure to remove the top plate that says tuned port injection..... it gets pretty dirty in there also

You might as well go ahead and remove the TB and give a good cleaning. Not much to taking it off. Good chance to clean the back side and the IAC area.

Yes actually you can do it either way, but spraying while the engine is one is a little more efficient in my opinion. Rev it up while you do. The filter is only while the engine is moving because of dust and such that flies in there and could damage the TB. Filter usage really doesn't make any sense until you're moving......unless of course you're flingin dirt into the intake with your hand or something. LOL. Actually I use intake fuel injector cleaning sprays on the throttle body while the intake hose/air filer is off, and spray the throttle body while moving the throttle manually. It helps the saturation. Be careful what you're spraying though and don't get any in the alternator. :seeya

Raise the rpms SLOW or it will die with the MAF disconnected.
