I have a '95 coupe with 56,000 miles and have a couple of questions. I think the car still handles really tight in the twisties but at high speed (80+) it wants to float quite a bit. Is this the first sign I need new shocks? If so, I've got my eye on a set of Bilsteins for $279.
My other question concerns engine idle speed. Mine is all over the map! One time it will lug down to 400rpm and be shaking the car, another time it might be 1300 and just racing. It seems to make no difference whether the car is hot or cold. Does not affect the running or the way it launches at all. Anybody have any suggetsions? :steering:
Don't know about your idle problem. As for the shocks, I have been experiencing the same issues with my 93. Of course, I have 3 times the mileage you have with the factory shocks still. I know mine are shot! You may want to look at KYB's and have your Bilsteins rebuilt/revalved. May end to be about the same price as the new Bilsteins, but you can have the valving changed to enhance the performance.

I replaced mine the first time at around 50,000 miles. That is all they are really good for. I just bought my second set at 116,000 miles. BTW, they are $269.95 at Zip right now, on sale. :seeya
When you send them, put a note in the box stating that you want the "weekend autocross" valving.
My 94 (at 40k) was doing the same "float" on the freeway going over an overpass. It made me feel very uncomfortable. I can't tell you how much better the car handeles now. :steering:
The weekend autocross valving is not advertised, but after talking to one of their techs, he suggested it. I wanted something between stock and racing setup.
You will not regret it!!!
I did it last winter and it was something like $52 a shock. A bargain at twice the price.
Thanks for all the info guys. The front spoiler is in good shape, brand new as a matter of fact. How do I talk to someone at Bilstein about the weekend autocross setup? How long did it take them to do it? I might just take them off and leave the car in the garage until they can get them back to me instead of buying cheap ones for a short period of time.
