I have a 1987 with 4+3 that I use for AutoCross. It ahs a funtional Overdrive but I do not get an indicator when its on or off. I'd like to have a way to deactivate it during AX.
Anyone found a way to do this? Its easy accidentally to hit the switch during all the action in the car when I'm lost in a sea of cones
There is no indicator that will tell you when the O/D program is on of off. There should be an overdrive engaged indicator right above the 2 digits in your tachometer. If you don't have that then either the LCD pane is not functioning or somebody replaced your tachometer LCD pane with a pre-87 one.
Yeah, I can see the outline of the indicator, looks like it is not functioning. Wondered if it only came on when the OD was engaged? Sounds like that's the case.
Probably just does not engage due to throttle position even if I have it on by mistake during AX.
Yes, it does engage when driven normally. The car is only used for AX and during AX runs things happen a lot by feel. Wearing gloves I'm sure I accidently engage the OD during shifts. Just one more thing to worry about while out there killing cones.
Is the button on your shifter really floppy and easy to press? If so then you need to replace the spring and probably the overdrive switch also. Mine has a real positive feedback on it and it isn't easy to hit it.
Do you use the OD on long AX courses where a shift is necessary? If you don't want to use it at all you can just unplug the overdrive relay in the engine compartment.
Thanks again, the switch is pretty solid, its just I can't tell if I'm switching it off or on. I also let my Daughter drive the car (she has not yet beat me, but time will tell).
Sounds like I should pull the wire for AX and put it back for high speed stuff. I've only had the car about 6 weeks and raced it onyl twice so far.
