I'm sure you all knew this LOOOOONG before i posted here but today was the first major snowfall for northwestern PA and totally caught me off guard. barely made it out of my own driveway onto the main road which had about 3" on it...carried the car sideways about 1/8th mile and crawled into town...creeped up a small hill by my grandmothers house...overshot her driveway so i went to turn up another hill and that was a no-go...slid back down and off to the side...backed it down and got it turned around and to her house...got it stuck in my grandmothers yard which is totally flat and then in her driveway which also is totally flat (and paved)...so needless to say i stole her bravada to go home in till i can get some studded skinnies and sandbags...man this winter is gonna be a friggin blast!!
you're prolly wondering why i don't just buy a beater...well between both vettes i can't afford another car...and for the 4k i paid for the 84 i think i can live with it for now...but i figured someone would enjoy this tale...

Ice/slush are the real killes in these things. I've always said 3" accumulated or less and you're ok with a full tank of gas.
Sounds horrible. I had to take the top off today it was so beautiful. The only place I got stuck was at Hooters.... :jester
HOOTERS!??????!?!?? they closed down the only one close to me...now i'm afraid i'll never get to see a hooters chick in person...lucky guy... :D
I have a 82 subaru that I bought for $300 bucks. It clunks and knocks. I think the front drivers side wheel bearing is shot, but it handles much better than the vette in the snow. :yesnod:

Boy, does THAT bring back memories. I went through three Chicago winters with my first C4 and getting caught in one snowstorm was enough for me. I didn't have a daily driver so if snow was predicted, I found alternate transportation or I just plain didn't go out until the city got around to plowing and salting. At least I could hop on a bus or train to get where I needed to go - if the Vette had been my only practical means of transportation on those snow days, I'd have been sunk...

Buy a CORVair! Now theres some good weight distribution for you winter drivers. Dont even need snows or studs. :yesnod:
Omega1, Make sure you keep that snow out your way! Don't need it in my neck of the woods! :yesnod: Even though we did have some slight flurries yesterday!
I can't stand winter and I'm glad to know that my Vette will be resting peacefully in the garage until Spring, :banghead: The Suburban can handle all the dirty winter work!
Omega1,,,Good Luck!

ExploreOmega1, man I'm right there with ya, I know just what you mean :cry Last year when I had my other vette (sold), it was the only car I had, and just the fear of driving in several inches of snow was brutal enough!
But I bit the bullet after getting my current vette.....went out a couple months ago and got a pos toyota camry beater 5 speed V6 (mere $1,200, 140k miles), and suddenly its a major lift off your shoulders.
I know your experience was rough, just be careful on that throttle and at least for next year you can prepare yourself and get a winter beater when you can. You'll feel a ton better

:iagree: Had mine out for the first time in a couple of weeks due to an 4+3 OD problem. Just had to get it out and take the top off anyway the weather was sooo nice!! :steering: Sounds horrible. Sounds like you need another car before something happens. These cars are not made for winter. I would rather be safe then sorry for sure. As soon as they plow everythings ok, but that before can be really unsafe. You say you can't afford, if you take the insurance off the Corvettes for a few months maybe another car (beater) will be affordable, plus your saving your cars from damage. Good Luck :seeya
Well come to think of it! I just happen to have such a car for sale! :yesnod: It was my sons car and it saw him through 3 years of high school, When he graduated he moved up to something better!
The car was well maintained and I have been using it when my others are in the shop for service.
The car is 90 Pontiac Sunbird, 4 cyl. 5sp. Great winter beater!
If interested give me an email, it's cheap! :yesnod:

yea, terrible here, had to go topless.... yesterday...
2'nd day I had my vette I got stuck. Going down a hill I hit some Ice on the road and went sliding. OH poopie! OH poopie! OH poopie! Fortunately There was a spot where the sun was shining through the trees and had melted the snow off the road so I was able to stop. Couldn't go back up, wasn't about to get back on ice trying to go down so I went nowhere for about 4 hours till the sun got high enough overhead to melt the ice. Bored out of my mind because my amps are shot so no radio even.

Better bored than dead. A friend of mine's step-mother was from Wyoming and I remember her telling us that once the weather there started to turn, people would pack enough clothing and supplies in their cars or trucks to last the week it would take anyone to find and then dig them out if they happened to get caught in a snowstorm....
Well it's the day after...the plows were out, and the car is finally free...till the next big storm...i think we got 8" or so...which isn't all that bad given the area but when 1" will maroon me this year it's a nightmare...lol...yeah i do need to get a beater but i'll just have to bite down and save for next year...
to all of you who don't have snow yet or won't get any... :cuss :cuss :cuss :cuss :cuss :cuss :cuss :cuss :cuss :cuss :cuss :cuss :cuss :cuss :cuss :cuss
