Do all C4 convertables come with (or came with one from the factory) a hard top that bolts on over the rag top? or am i mis informed on how the convertables works?
89 was the first year that an optional hardtop (RPO CC2) was available. 1573 verts of 9749 made in 89 had that option. The 89 cars used a bolt on bracket to the B-pillar to attach the top braces. Later verts had the attaching points added as standard equipment.

Re: Vert Question (flyinace2000)
 Good info here already, but let me add
Hard top doesn't bolt over soft top
Soft top is stowed as if it were down and then Hardtop is installed
So, unfortunately, you don't pick up any storage space with the hardtop
But the look great and come in very handy in cold weather, they save the soft top from wet/freeze/thaw conditions that can destroy threads, seams and fabric
Take a lady cruising in a Vette 'vert on a clear summer night, and you will discover that 'verts rool. Other guys will look and they will want to be you. Other girls will look and they will want to get with you. Old couples will look and they will long to be young. Young kids will look and they will long to be old(er). Dogs will look and they will want to be human. Cats will look and they will want to lay on the car. Birds will fly over and they will pucker and hold it until the next car (preferably a Mustang).
Or not.
But 'verts are still a lot of fun in nice weather :yesnod:

The hard top for the convertible was an option starting in 1989. It was never a very popular option, as not many were sold. The soft top folds down, and then the hard top bolts into place. There is a retrofit kit available for 86-88 convertibles.
The OEM hardtop has a metal rollhoop built into the top which bolts to the car's frame with brackets. IIRC, with the hardtop bolted on, NHRA and SCCA allow C4 convertibles to race as coupes.
