I have tried to rebuild my old column and now I just replaced it with a used column out of a wrecked vette with only 30K miles on it and this column has some tilt steering wheel wiggle in it also. Is this just something I am gonna have to live with? How many others out there have the same issue?
Re: Does your steering column wiggle also? (milehighvette)
My '92 has about a half to an inch play to it. I was told to rebuild my column too...but heard it was expensive. SO ill live with the jigg for a while.
Re: Does your steering column wiggle also? (milehighvette)
How far along did you get in trying to rebuild the column? Was it too involved for the shade-tree mechanic to do in their driveway? Like (almost) everyone else, I have the same wiggle and would like to fix it. If you have a list of the required parts, I would really appreciate if you could post them.
Re: Does your steering column wiggle also? (LT-4 CE)
mine has a wee little jiggle from the owner before me using it to get in and out of the car (he wa sin his late 60's or so). I live with it in fact i dont even notice it. DO NOT use you wheel to aid in ingress and egress

Does your steering column wiggle also?
Only when her butt hits it.
Seriously, my steering column wiggles ever so slightly. I think they probably all do to a certain extent. Unless it vibrates excessively, I wouldn't worry about it. Do you have someone else's you can compare it to?
Re: Does your steering column wiggle also? (milehighvette)
I have an 85 and it used to do this. I finally removed the steering wheel and all the guts at the top of the column. I even removed the tilt spring and assembly to get to the bolts that hold the part of the column that was loose. I could only get to 2 of the 3 bolts that held it together. These bolts are torx head bolts. You need a torx socket with the torx female hole that fits on the bolt head. Once the 2 screws were tightened, I put it back together and now it has no slop. It's a little involved, if you haven't played with the turn signal wiring, or messed with the steering wheel removal and tilt mechanism it can be a little intimidating. The book wasn't a whole lot of help either.
