Re: Manual vs Automatic weight difference? (Lord Odin)
They are close in weight. Antonick's "Corvette spec" book sez the 1998 automatic is 178 lb wet, the manual 151.8 lb, wet or dry not specified, but it only holds 4.1 lbs of oil.
But then you have to add the clutch and flywheel to the manual so it's going to weigh more than the automatic.
But then if you look at the total weights in the same book for 92 to 96 it shows the automatic as about 10 lbs lighter to 51 lbs heavier depending on the year.
Short answer, not much difference. Hopefully somone here has actually weighed them including the clutch and flywheel.
Re: Manual vs Automatic weight difference? (Lord Odin)
Not sure about the weight difference. I wouldn' be surprised if the manuals are a tad quicker than the autos, but .5 seconds in the 1/4.............I doubt it :nonod:
Re: Manual vs Automatic weight difference? (vizkiz)
I think he meant .5 sec quicker 0-60.
The reason for this is that most people who can drive a good stick can shift faster than an auto tranny can.
No, I meant the quarter. Seems from observations I've made that there is a .5 sec difference between Man and Auto and another .5 sec difference between Converts and Coupes. I usually see Auto/Converts run about 14.5, Auto/Coupes & Man/Converts around 14, and Man/Coupes running around 13.5 when bone stock.
Maybe these numbers are off but that's what I've taken from watching most cars. Whether it really is true or not, I don't know. Just a general rule of thumb I've been going by.

Oh, ok then. Same thing applies. Manual can be shifted faster by many people. The reason for verts being slower is extra weight. Now if you have an auto vert, that's obviously even slower.
