Tires cost too much. So I've never done this with this vette. Did many with my '69 vert. 350/350. 4spd. Fantastic.
But this vette means something different to me.

I've done it once or twice....(ok, maybe three or four times, i did not have sex with that woman, I plead the fifth, I just don't remember).
I admit I have done it a couple of times, but I agree tires are just too expensive. It it very easy to accidently "break loose" when leaving a red light, though.
I did it once on old tires. Pretty awesome for an '85 model. I put it in low gear (automatic) and just floored the throttle. Even with the stock mufflers, the engine was loader than the burning rear tires. There was alot of smoke coming off of the tires and it actually twisted the rubber away from the cord in a couple of spots on these worn tires. I replaced the tires with new Goodyears and I haven't smoked them since. Parts are too expensive to replace, when you consider that a new/rebuilt rear end runs around $1500. I accelerate from a roll, instead of a dead stop. That puts alot less stress on the parts. :smash: And "Exhibition of Speed" tickets are expensive too.
Well, the first day I owned my 87 (two whole months ago) I was trying to get to my hotel in detroit. I cut back thru a parking lot and ended up in a brand new asphalt parking lot... of the UAW! In DETROIT! I mean- come on! What COULD I do?
I have to admit I turned the wheel hard left and floored it. Truth be told, I think it scared me as much as my wife! Thing whipped around in a cloud of smoke. Made those 240 horses seem a little more real.
Middle-aged crazy, I guess.
Never have. No desire to. The local misunderstood young & misguided dirtbags in my neighborhood tear up most of the intersections. I get a free show at no cost to my tires.

Re: Odd question (86shark)
I have NOT performed a true burnout. I spun 'em for about 15 feet once, just to see how hard it would be. (Answer: ain't hard at all. )
But I respect my Corvette too much to deliberately abuse it...plus, I'm too old for such shenanigans.
Now, high-speed blasts up an open freeway? Let's go....
I've never done a burnout. Only had my stock 95 coupe A4 for 2 months. I don't know how to do a burnout or what a lock line is. Can anybody explain? My rear tires will need to be replaced next year and I guess that would be the most oportune time to try one or two or three...

Re: Odd question (86shark)
It isn't the burnout that I find fun, but I like to be moving anywhere from 10 to 25 mph and floor it. And watch in the rearview mirror to see the 2 very wide marks that I just left on the road. Especially if it is a quick trip there and back, Then I get to see them from the other lane. I do this just about daily, gotta love a nice HARD Acceleration. I might get 10,000 miles out of my tires.
